COMPANY HISTORY

 

Dataco Utility Services Limited was formed in 1998.   It was and continues to be the mandate of the company to provide quality-metering services within the changing utility market in Alberta,  Western Canada and beyond.  Our initial contract was with Enmax, which is owned by the City of Calgary.  We have become a key partner with them, in their metering service division.

 

In response to Enmax and our other customers, Dataco continues to develop an infrastructure that answers to the growing needs of our customers.  We consistently monitor our performance and the performance of our workers to ensure responsible decision-making is upheld at all levels of the company. 

 

We believe that our experience gives us a marketing edge.  Dataco operates efficiently with a minimum of overhead expenses as we are not burdened by unnecessary administrative and management overhead costs. Therefore we can respond quickly to our customer's needs.  We are still a small company and find that our management style creates a favorable work environment for our workers and employees.  Our owners take a daily active role in managing operations.

 

At the present time, we have over 40 people working for us.  Our concerted effort in training and hiring practices has resulted in a very low staff turnover rate and a high caliber of employees.

 

All of us at Dataco have a keen work ethic, which benefits each of us personally and this follows through to our customers as well.  The strength of Dataco is our people.  The owners of the company are committed to ensuring that this concept is maintained.  Our continued success and growth is a reflection that this is working both within Dataco and for our customers.

 


Current Operations

 

In June 2004, Dataco partnered with Bell Mobility and Flowfinity to introduce a more efficient way of transferring data to assist in closing service orders for one of our main customers.  In doing so we have streamlined the information flow to mere minutes. 

 

 

All of our field crew now utilize Blackberries.  Information they obtain from a customers’ site is electronically sent to our office based data centre, where it immediately updates our files and assists us in transmitting required information to the Service Order Control unit of our customer.

  


Training Capabilities and Practices

 

The individuals who we use as trainers have a minimum 5 years experience in metering services and have excellent communication skills.  Our training takes place over a 4 day period and is an ‘on the job’ training program. 

 

Our training is comprehensive and the employee gains skills in the following areas:

How to read a meter

How to disconnect/reconnect/ recall a meter

Use of the Blackberry handheld unit

Policies and safety procedures training
